Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
